What is Asphalt Roofing Made of?
Your typical asphalt shingles are made out of an organic material, usually cellulose fibers, or inorganic materials like glass fibers. This material, or mat, is then coated in asphalt and then surfaced with ceramic opaque mineral granules: a single shingle of asphalt roofing is designed to withstand diverse weather conditions which are very important for the North Shore.
There are multiple types of asphalt shingles though. There are organic mat shingles that can have around 40 percent more asphalt than your typical shingle. This makes them thicker and heavier, but are able to withstand more damage over time.
Asphalt Roofing Colors
There is a lot of variety when it comes to the way you want your asphalt shingles to look and that is no different when it comes to colors. Some of the tones range from different shades of gray, brown, and red. There are also options for green and blue options as well.
